We live in a very digital world. At this point, nearly everything you can get in the physical world is also offered online. This, in turn, has led to more flexibility in schedules and more time and freedom overall for people, and online Yoga is no exception!
Although I frequently practice online classes on my phone or tablet, sometimes having the ability to follow along on my TV is a treat! A few people have asked how they can stream their online yoga classes to their TVs so I’ve put together a few ways you can connect your smart device to your TV so you can watch yoga videos at home.
Home practice
This is by no means an exhaustive list! Google is definitely your best friend if the below doesn’t help or work – I’m a yoga teacher, not a tech guru!
1. Chromecast – works for both iOS and Android devices
Chromecast allows you to cast videos and screens from your smart devices to your TV. It requires you to purchase a Chromecast dongle or have Chromecast built-in to your TV (check your model to find out). It also requires you to have the Chrome browser downloaded on whatever smart device you are trying to cast from and the Google Home app downloaded on your smartphone or tablet.
Plug your Chromecast dongle into the HDMI input on your TV. Then change your TV channel to the corresponding HDMI channel and set up your account accordingly through the Google Home app. If your TV has Chromecast built-in, follow the directions on-screen (likely within your TV menus).
If you’re using a laptop: open the Chrome browser and pull up the video you want to cast. In the top right corner of your browser, click the three vertical dots. Choose cast and select your corresponding TV.
If you’re using a smartphone or tablet: Open the Chrome browser or app and pull up the video you want to cast. On the video itself select the Chromecast icon. Click this and select the corresponding TV.
2. AirPlay – only works with iOS devices
AirPlay allows you to cast videos from your iOS device to your Apple TV. To use AirPlay first ensure both your device and Apple TV are connected to the same WiFi network.
Next pull up the video you want to cast on your device. Select the cast option on the video than when it pops up, select the “AirPlay and Bluetooth” option.
Next, select your TV when it appears. If it requires a device code, enter the code that shows on your TV into your device. That’s it!
3. Android “Cast Screen” Function – only works with Android devices

This feature allows you to mirror your Android phone screen to your Android TV device. Pull down your device menu and select Cast Screen, (if not available here, it can be found under settings, display, cast screen). A screen will pop up that says “No devices available”.
Select more settings. A new screen will appear that says “No devices were found”. Click the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen and check “enable wireless display”.
After doing this, available TVs in your area should appear as options. Choose yours. Your TV should then say “Connecting to Android” and connect to mirror your screen to your TV.
4. HDMI Adapter Cable
This will work for all devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc…) but is not wireless. Purchase and HDMI adapter cable or dongle for the device you would like to use. Plug the HDMI end into your TV’s HDMI input and change the channel to the corresponding HDMI channel. Plug the other end of the cord into your device. If prompted, choose “trust device” and enter the passcode that is displayed on the screen.
